Many sensors on the engine, chassis, body, navigation and other systems have been manufactured using MIM technology, such as pressure sensor components, airbag sensor inserts, oxygen sensors, steering sensors, cruise control sensor seats, sensor housings, etc.

Safety performance is the most important aspect of automobile parts, and sensors are the most stringent parts among all automobile MIM parts. The qualification rate reaches 99.999%, and no defective rate is allowed. When Lianyungang Fuchi manufactures sensors using the MIM process, it will experience tens of thousands of product experiments and make a report and analysis of the sensor performance produced by various parameters. A lot of verification needs to be done before it is put into the market in the early stage, and the verification cycle is generally no less than 6 months.

1 MIM process and technical characteristics

1.1 MIM process

MIM technology includes four main processes:

① Mixing and granulating of powder and binder;

② Injection molding machine injection molding;

③ Select appropriate degreasing process to degrease;

④ The sintered parts densify them.

1.2 MIM process characteristics

MIM is a new near net forming technology for metal parts, which combines plastic injection molding technology, polymer science, powder metallurgy technology and metal materials science. It not only inherits the advantages of traditional powder metallurgy and plastic injection molding, but also breaks through the limitations of traditional metal powder molding on part shape. It can rapidly manufacture parts that are small in size and complex in shape and cannot be processed or difficult to process by traditional methods.

Almost all materials can be produced by MIM process. MIM technology not only has the advantages of simple process, low cost, no or less cutting, high economic benefits, but also overcomes many shortcomings of traditional powder metallurgy, cutting processing, investment casting.
